Caroline Garcia, one of the top talents in women’s tennis, has made the difficult decision to end her 2024 season prematurely, following the tournament in Guadalajara. In a heartfelt statement, the French star revealed that ongoing physical and mental struggles have prompted her to step away from the sport to heal and reset before returning in 2025.
Physically, Garcia admitted that her shoulder had been pushed to its limit. “I’ve been trying to recover while competing, and it’s just not working. I need more time off to heal properly,” she shared. Mentally, she confessed to needing a break from the “constant grind of tennis” to reconnect with her family and regain her love for the game.
The 30-year-old, who has achieved significant milestones like winning 1000-level titles and the WTA Finals, reflected on her career, acknowledging both her successes and her unfulfilled ambitions. Despite struggling with anxiety and disappointment, she remains hopeful for her return. “When I eventually leave tennis behind, I want to look back and say I enjoyed the journey, I’m proud of myself, and I gave it my all,” Garcia wrote.
Guadalajara marked the end of my 2024 season. It wasn’t an easy decision, because in tennis, every week off feels like falling behind—losing ranking points and “missing” opportunities. But I know this is the right call to come back stronger in 2025 and fight for those big moments… pic.twitter.com/UISnUQnuWf
