Federer beats Zverev in Rome

Roger Federer had a good comeback in Rome after defeating a dangerous Alexander Zverev in straight sets 6-3 7-5.  The Swiss Maestro was always in full control of the match even if Roger’s movements looked clearly hampered by his back injury. The world no.2 was often dictating the rallies, and he used extremely well the drop shots. The match ended after just 87 minutes.

Federer. I am not sure I’ll play the 3rd round

After the match, Roger admitted that he is still struggling with his back, and it was a “calculated risk to play.” Furthermore, Federer said he was sure to lose in straight sets to Zverev. The Swiss also conceded he is not sure if he will play he 3rd round to add “I am going practice by practice right now. Stopping every 15 minutes to talk with the team. Hope I’ll play.”

The 3rd round vs. Thiem

If fit, Roger will play the 3rd round against rising star Dominic Thiem. The head to head is 1-0 for Roger that has breezed past Thiem 6-1 6-4 in this year’s semifinal in Brisbane.
