Nadal triumphs in Monte Carlo

The Gladiator is back!

Rafael Nadal plays an astonishing tennis in the Monte Carlo final against an in-form Gael Monfils to win 7-5 5-7 6-0.

Rafa was in full throttle for the entire time; Gael Monfils proved to be an incredible competitor especially in the second set when, instead of melting, he held tough to bring the match at the decider. In the 3rd set, it was Rafa to surprise again to keep his level sky high; that proved too much for Monfils that wasn’t able to cope anymore. Rafa won is 9th Monte Carlo after 2 hours and 46 minutes of pure fun.

This is Rafa’s 68th career title and his 28th Master ATP1000.

Why Nadal was so emotional

Rafa was extremely happy after this title to comment “The victory here confirms that I am better and I am very happy. It’s been a very, very emotional week for me, a very important event. Monte-Carlo is one of the most important places in my career without any doubt. To win again here after three years is so special for me. Winning nine times here is something unbelievable for me. I need to keep going.”

 

Next stop Barcelona

Rafa will now go to Barcelona where he will try to regain his crown after Nishikori has won the title for the last 2 years. The King of Clay is back!
