Injured Nishikori and Thiem will not play in Halle. Federer, Zverev confirmed.

HALLE. Roger Federer and Sascha Zverev will be more and more the leaders in Germany

Thiem Nishikori

Bad news for the German fans in Halle as Dominic Thiem and Kei Nishikori will not play the upcoming ATP500 in Halle.

Kei Nishikori withdrawal

The Japanese had to skip the prestigious event in Germany to recover from an injury. Kei released the following statement

“Unfortunately, my right upper arm is not completely healed yet. I can not risk this further, and we have decided to go with my team to take more rest. I am very sorry for the tournament in Halle as I see it as good preparation for Wimbledon.”

Nishikori has signed a contract with the organization to participate in the next 3 years. He will stay in Florida in the meantime and his participation in Wimbledon in confirmed.

Why Dominic Thiem will not play

The Austrian had a fantastic run at the recent French Open where he lost only in the final against Rafael Nadal (who else?). Dominic’s run was particularly grueling especially after his epic 5-setter in the semifinal when he defeated Novak Djokovic after playing over 2 days before facing the King of Clay the following day.

Domis is still recovering from his last struggle to release the following comment

“In the run-up to Wimbledon, I have to change some things this year, it was a mess last year, so I have to avoid the mistakes I made in 2018.”

Roger Federer and Sascha Zverev are confirmed to play and they will be the players to beat.
