Heather Watson wins her 3rd career title in Monterrey!
After a miserable start of the year when Heather lost in the quarters in Hobart to crash in openers in Melbourne and Acapulco, the Brit found her way in Monterrey to win the title after defeating tough opponents such as Wozniacki, Garcia and Flikpens in the final.
Watson had to work hard in the final to recover from 1 set down and then deal with her emotions in the decider when she squandered a 3-0 lead (then 3-all). Eventually the Brit won the match 3-6 6-2 6-3 just under 2 hours.
Watson. I am extremely happy
Heather commented “I don’t know where to start. I’m extremely happy today. I was nervous coming into the match, and I’ve never beaten Kirsten before – she’s a great player who really makes you work for it.”
After this tournament Heather will be ranked no.53.
