Zverev struggles his way to the 4th round

Alexander Zverev of Germany beat Dusan Lajovic of Serbia in his 3rd round match in Paris.

The world no.5 got to a fantastic start by leading in the first two sets and then seemingly winning the match easily against the Serb. But it was not to be as it took complete 5 set for the German to cross the line.

Zverev had to put a real hard work as he faced 17 break points in the match. Lajovic broke 7 times but he lost the edge in the 5th set and lost the match.

The German won the match 6-4 6-2 4-6 1-6 6-2 in 3 hours and 3 minutes over the 35th-ranked Serb.

The Match

The German did not start well as he lost his first service game, Lajovic also had the opportunity to go up 2 breaks in the 5th game but he squandered that and it was the German who prevailed to win the first set 6-4.

The second set was easy for the German as he broke the Serb twice to win the set 6-2.

Lajovic surged ahead in the third set breaking Zverev in the 3rd game to lead 2-1. For the rest of the set, he was good enough to hold on his serve and win the set by 6-4.

Lajovic was commanding in the 4th set. He broke the German in the 1st, 5th and the 7th game to win the set easily by 6-1.

After completing losing his ground in the 4th set, the world no.5 regained momentum in the decider with breaking his opponent’s serve in the 1st, 5th and 7th game to win the set 6-2.

The fifth-seeded Zverev will next face Fabio Fognini.
