Amanda Anisimova is probably the most exciting prospects in American tennis. Currently no.51, at just 17 years of age, Amanda is rising fast in the rankings, and she has already won a tournament (April in Bogota’).
Anisimova is currently in the 3rd round of the Roland Garros after she dismissed Harmony Tan 6-3 6-1 and Aryna Sabalenka 6-4 6-2.
How Serena Williams inspired Anisimova
During the press conference following her win over Sabalenka, Amanda disclosed how Serena Williams inspired her with her career and a special pep talk in Miami after she lost a tough match against Anett Kontaveit.
Amanda commented
“Actually when I had a tough loss at Miami Open, it was a really long match and I was super upset in the locker room, Serena actually came up to me, and we shared a little bit of a chat.
That was really nice of her, and I’ll remember it forever.”
Serena Williams about the exchange
The American was asked about that conversation after her win against Kurumi Nara, and Serena replied
“I just needed to do that, and I know she’s super young. Like I said, I really love all the new young players. Like, it’s just so exciting. I feel like tennis has done so much for me, and to see a new generation come through is great.
I was, like, I gotta, like, I can’t sit here, I can’t sit here, I can’t, I can’t, I gotta make a move. I wanted to.”
