Aiming for greater glory at the French Open, Jannik Sinner considers the shift in mindset that enabled him to win his maiden grand slam.
Seeing Sinner in Roland Garros makes sense because it was here exactly one year ago that an unexpected loss transformed his chaotic outlook and put him on a fresh, clear course. Since then, Sinner’s clear focus has allowed him to defeat Novak Djokovic in three of their last four meetings, win the Australian Open in January, lift the Davis Cup for Italy, and climb to the No. 2 ranking in the world.
He gives credit to Darren Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi, the coaches he hired in 2022. Sinner has solidified his mentality and imparted important technical modifications.
Sinner discusses the benefits of approaching tennis as a hobby. He said in a recent interview: “Tennis started as my hobby and now it’s my job. But it’s important that I still play like it’s my hobby. It’s impossible to always be positive. You have so many moments where you have negatives, but you have to find a way to get out of them. The more you play, the easier it is.”
