Although Carlos Alcaraz acknowledges he is still developing as he approaches the French Open, he is confident he can reach his peak on the city’s clay.
Over the last few months, the Spaniard has battled a forearm injury that has kept him out of the major clay-court tournaments in Monte Carlo, Barcelona, and Rome.
Although he participated in the Madrid Open in front of his local crowd, he chose to skip the Italian Open due to ongoing pain after losing to Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals.
Alcaraz is optimistic that he will be ready for Roland Garros, which begins on Sunday. He expressed his thoughts about it and said: “Things are going well lately; I’m really happy with all the progress. It was difficult for me because at the beginning the doctors told me it was not going to be serious; it was just going to take a few days, from five to seven, and it wasn’t that time. I was dealing with the pain and how to focus my practice on the injury. Playing the Mutua Madrid Open not at my 100% was difficult as well but I’m really happy that I had the chance to play.”
He further added: “Missing Monte Carlo, Barcelona, and Rome, tournaments that are beautiful for me, was tough, but things are going very, very well lately and that’s all that matters. I think I’ll be at 100%. I don’t have hours on the court and I think on clay, you need to spend a lot of hours on the court just to get the rhythm and to learn how to move. It’s going to be difficult, but I have time to practice with the top players; I have time to play sets and practice matches; and I think it’ll be really helpful for me just to be ready for Roland Garros.”

WWWWWWWLWW At the moment ranked no.3, Alcaraz played his last match on the 1st of May when he lost to world no.6 Andrey Rublev 4-6 6-3 6-2 in the quarter in Madrid (draw).
Presently, during this year Carlos has achieved an overall 18-5 record. This year, Carlos lifted the trophy in Indian Wells.
