Coco Gauff explains why she is so positive ahead of the French Open campaign

Coco Gauff is looking to use the skills she received from a challenging clay-court swing to improve on her breakthrough Grand Slam performance from the U.S. Open last year at the French Open.

Gauff Ready For French Open

Coco Gauff is hoping to build on her breakout Grand Slam performance at the U.S. Open last year by applying the lessons she gained from a difficult clay-court swing to the French Open.

Before this year’s Roland Garros event, the 20-year-old American had concentrated all of her efforts on putting an end to her lack of success in clay-court competitions, which dates back to 2021.

Gauff told reporters in a recent interview and said: “From the start of the clay till now, I feel like my confidence is definitely very high. I lost playing the right way. I know that I’m a good player and that I can do better in those moments. I think I’m just trusting myself and my practice at that. Going into Roland Garros, like if you asked me about the tournament, and now, I feel like I’m a different player in terms of just how I’ve been playing.”

It’s natural why Gauff would be climbing after a career turning point last year when she won her first Grand Slam title at home.

But Gauff found it difficult to serve in Rome, so she knows she’ll need to have every tactic at her disposal if she encounters top seed Iga Swiatek in Paris. The Polish player might possibly come between the American and French Open titles since she has defeated Gauff in all but one of their previous 11 matches.

Gauff expressed her thoughts about it and said: “Going into it, I know she’s the one to beat if I want to win Roland Garros. I’m going to take what I learned from the Italian Open and try to apply it next time we play, which I hope is at Roland Garros.”
