Caroline Wozniacki’s father upset for his daughter not receiving wild cards

The wildcard selection method at the WTA, French Open, and Rome Open has drawn criticism from Piotr Wozniacki, Caroline's father, who feels his daughter is being treated unfairly.

Caroline Wozniacki’s father, Piotr Wozniacki, has criticized the WTA, French Open, and Rome Open since he believes his daughter is being treated unfairly by the wildcard selection process.

After receiving wildcards into neither the French Open nor the Rome Open, Wozniacki ended up playing in just two clay-court events this season: one in Madrid and one in Charleston.

But since she’s still rather well-known, everyone assumed that she would have no trouble qualifying for any event and that any tournament would be honoured to have her as a guest. However, such was not the thinking of the French Open and the Rome Open.

In response to Wozniacki’s exit from the qualifying round and lack of a wildcard into the French Open main draw, Piotr attacked the WTA, saying that they are acting like amateurs.

Piotr expressed his thoughts about it and said: “Caroline is not the type of person who considers the qualifiers a dishonour. She can play in the qualifying. But in the case of Roland, she simply wanted to see if she was respected. That’s why she didn’t enter the qualifying rounds, risking losing the tournament at most. She told me, ‘Dad, I’m not going to enter because I’m curious how they will treat me’.”

He further said: “And by the time she got the answer, it was too late to apply for the qualifiers. With Wimbledon, on the other hand, the thing is that we are waiting, but we already know what to expect. For the tournament in Rome, all the wildcards, and there were eight of them, were given to Italians. I understand promoting your players, but how can you give the right to play in a tournament of this rank to girls who shouldn’t even think about playing in a WTA 1000 tournament?”
