Alex Corretja, a former tennis player from Spain, brought up Carlos Alcaraz’s recent arm injury as a possible hurdle to his confidence in his talents at the 2024 French Open. With this injury, world No. 3 had to pull out of multiple clay court events in Europe.
Alcaraz had a successful 2024 season, winning the Indian Wells Masters, making it to the Argentina Open semifinals, and finishing in the quarterfinals of the Australian, Miami, and Madrid Opens. However, a right forearm injury sidelined him for the majority of the European clay court season.
The injury led the Spaniard to withdraw from the Italian Open, the Barcelona Open, and the Monte Carlo Masters.
Ahead of the 2024 French Open, Corretja talked about Alcaraz’s prospects at Roland Garros in a recent discussion. He said he had noticed that the injury was preventing Alcaraz from using his forehand at its best, but he hoped that the Spaniard would be fully recovered in time for the French Open.
He expressed his remarks about Alcaraz and said: “I saw him live in Madrid and once he gets into the rhythm, he’s very dangerous. His forehand is working well, but maybe he wasn’t hitting it as hard as before. We will see if, at Roland-Garros, he is going to be feeling the ball a little bit more or he’s going to start little by little, in crescendo, to see if he can get a little bit of confidence using his arm.”
Corretja agreed that players may feel uneasy while striking the ball in the region that was hurt due to injuries. He did admit that he thinks Alcaraz will fully recover and be prepared to play in the French Open.
He added: “When you have these kinds of injuries, sometimes you have some doubts when you hit the ball where it’s been hurting. So hopefully he’s going to have recovered, yes.”
