Novak Djokovic had to work hard to beat Leonardo Mayer in the quarters in Doha. The world no.1 was not as perfect as usual to be broken early in each set. The big “drama” was when Mayer failed to served out the second set when he was 5-4 up to lose the game at love (Leonardo wasted 2 easy smashes). Eventually Nole won 6-3 7-5 in 1 hour and 33 minutes. Djokovic about the key of the match
Nole conceded that the turning point was when Mayer didn’t manage to serve out the second set “He had two easy smashes and he missed them. Obviously that was the turning point of the second set. If he made them he could have won the second set and the match is open.”
Next vs. Berdych
Nole will play Berdych in the semifinal. Heat to head is 21-2 for the Serbian.
