Raducanu’s top sponsor explains why it endorses Emma despite slumps

Emma Raducanu has seen a drop in the world rankings, but HSBC has promised to stick by the British athlete and continue to sponsor her.

Despite Emma Raducanu’s decline in the global rankings, HSBC has vowed to support the British star and will keep on providing sponsorship. Just two years ago, the 21-year-old hit her career high of No. 10, but since then, she has struggled with form and fitness, falling to the 221st position.

However, she still reaps the benefits of the huge sponsorship deals that poured in following her stunning US Open victory back in September 2021, which pushed her to celebrity status. She also signed on to become a global brand ambassador for the Universal Bank and financial services organization, following her very own New York fantasy.

Since then, Raducanu has arguably lost a significant amount of his market appeal due to her inability to advance past the second round of a Grand Slam competition for nearly three years. Additionally, she hasn’t yet won a WTA circuit title.

However, HSBC’s Global Head of Brand, Jonathan Castleman, has openly supported Raducanu and shown sympathy for the disparate outcomes that professional athletes face.

He said: “In any walk of life, we experience unexpected pivotal moments. In just a few years, Emma’s career has seen her experience both the highest of highs and moments of uncertainty. At HSBC, we understand that life is rarely a straight line and we’re proud to be supporting Emma on every stage of her journey.”

At the French Open the following week, Raducanu will not be looking to get back to his previous level of play. Instead, she decided to pull out of the Roland Garros competition after failing to secure a wildcard; still, it is said that she made this decision deliberately rather than because of an injury.
