During his first-round encounter at the Italian Open, Rafael Nadal intervened to alert the umpire that someone in the crowd required medical assistance. Ten minutes or so passed while Zizou Bergs and Nadal waited for the fan to be attended to before play could restart.

When Nadal realized someone among the spectators wasn’t feeling well, he was serving to begin the second set. Nadal had lost the first set against Bergs, 6-4. The Spaniard abruptly turned around and pointed to the top of the stands while leading 40-0, alerting the umpire to the problem.

In addition to giving towels to supporters in the crowd and requesting that they pass them up to the spectator in need, chair official Mohamed Lahyani promptly sought assistance.
