At the 2024 Madrid Open, Rafael Nadal’s son returned to see his father play. On Monday, Nadal defeated Pedro Cachin of Argentina in a third-round match to extend his incredible run in Madrid. He started the match off strong, breaking Cachin’s serve three times to win the opening set.
The Spaniard and his opponent engaged in a fierce battle in the second set, trading three serve breaks each to send the match into a tiebreaker.
The 20-time Grand Slam champion gained three mini-breaks in the tiebreaker, which had its share of highs and lows. Cachin received four to tie the score after each set.
In the ninth game of the third set, Nadal broke Cachin and eventually crossed the finish line, winning 6-1, 6-7(5), 6-3 to advance.
Notably, Rafa Jr., who had visited La Caja Magica in the first round, was there to witness his father’s victory in Madrid for the second time. On Monday, he was seen adoringly clapping for his champion father while sitting in his mother’s arms.

Now ranked no.512, Nadal has managed to achieve a compiled 6-2 match record in 2024. The Spaniard is currently having a run in Madrid where he ousted Darwin Blanch 6-1 6-0, the world no.11 Alex De Minaur 7-66 6-3 and the world no.91 Pedro Cachin 6-1 6-75 6-3.
Rafael Nadal will compete against the world no.31 Jiri Lehecka in the 4th round on Tuesday at 10:30 pm on MANOLO SANTANA STADIUM. They have never competed against each other till now in top events.
Rafael won 92 titles in his career: 24 on hard courts, 63 on clay courts, 1 on indoor courts and 4 on grass courts. (See the list of his titles)
He is also scheduled to play at the French Open (French Open) after Rome. The main draw will start on the 8th of May.
