Alcaraz predicts that Sinner will be the top player at the end of 2024 season

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz appear to be in fierce competition to be the top finishers at the end of the year, and the former said that his major rival is the favourite to win.

Alcaraz And Sinner Shake Hands

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz look to be engaged in an intense rivalry for the top spot at the end of the year, and the Spaniard acknowledged that his main adversary is the favourite to come out on top.

Sinner has won three victories this year, including his maiden Grand Slam at the Australian Open, the Rotterdam Open, and the Miami Open, making him the most dominant player on the ATP Tour. Based on those outcomes, the Italian has also surged to No. 2 in the ATP Rankings.

In an interview, Alcaraz was asked by a reporter who would be on top at the end of this season, to which he replied: “Hopefully me, but everything looks like it will be Jannik.”

Regarding the official rankings, Sinner has a 1,470-point advantage over Alcaraz, making it practically impossible for Alcaraz to drop to No. 2 even if he wins the Madrid Open.

Sinner would create a significant lead before the Rome tournament; thus, even if he were to win, Alcaraz would not be able to beat the Australian champion at the Italian Open.

Alcaraz further said after being asked about rankings: “For me, yes. Although it is true that, for many issues, being two is much better than being three, for example, at the level of brands and image, at the tennis level, at the sports level, well, no. In the semi-finals, you will face the best regardless of the ranking.”
