Novak Djokovic, the world No. 1 in tennis, finds himself at a crossroads as he contemplates his coaching arrangements following the end of his six-year partnership with Goran Ivanisevic. Despite their successful tenure, which saw Djokovic secure all four Grand Slam titles, the Serbian star has struggled to reach peak performance this year, failing to clinch a title or advance to a final in four tournaments played.
After parting ways with Ivanisevic, Djokovic has embarked on a trial period with his country’s former Davis Cup captain, Nenad Zimonjić. The duo teamed up for the Monte Carlo Masters, where Djokovic reached the semifinals but was defeated by Casper Ruud. However, Djokovic remains undecided on whether to make Zimonjić his permanent coach, or even to forgo coaching altogether.
In a statement reflecting his contemplation, Djokovic expressed, “I am considering that as well, whether I should or shouldn’t have the coach. I think there’s always value in having that quality team and fitness coach, physio, mental coach. It’s all important. It creates a formula for success and helps you perform better, train better, recover better.”
Despite his uncertainty, Djokovic remains focused on his goals, recently clinching his record-equalling fifth Laureus sportsman award. His sights are now set on defending his French Open title, with preparations intensifying for the upcoming clay court season.
In terms of his tournament schedule, Djokovic confirmed his absence from the Madrid Open this year, prioritizing his physical readiness for the French Open and other crucial events on the horizon. However, he remains optimistic about competing at the Rome Masters next month, aiming to refine his form ahead of the Grand Slam tournaments.
Reflecting on his approach to the season, Djokovic remarked, “This year has been a bit different for me, the start, I’m still finding my best level of tennis. Hopefully that can still come in Roland-Garros.”
As Djokovic navigates this pivotal phase in his career, the tennis world awaits his decision with anticipation, recognizing the impact it may have on his quest for continued success on the court.

At the moment, during this season Novak achieved an overall 11-4 record. Novak Djokovic’s best achievement of the present year was getting to the semifinal at the Australian Open and Monte Carlo.
Djokovic will play next in Rome (Internazionali BNL d’Italia). He will start the tournament from the main draw that will commence on the 8th of May.
