Vondrousova Opens Up Why She Divorced Her Husband

Czech tennis sensation Marketa Vondrousova has revealed to a Czech news outlet the end of her marriage to husband Stepan Simek. The 24-year-old athlete and her 26-year-old spouse, who got engaged in 2021 and married a year later, have decided to part ways.

“Our marriage with Stepan ended a few weeks ago, we broke up. He moved out with the cat,” Vondrousova disclosed to Blesk, expressing the reality of their separation.

Vondrousova’s Wimbledon journey in 2023 gained attention not just for her on-court prowess but also for her husband’s involvement, particularly when she faced Jessica Pegula in a tense match. Despite being down by a double break in the third set, Vondrousova staged a remarkable comeback, winning the next five games to secure victory.

During a crucial rain delay in the match against Pegula, Vondrousova credited her husband for providing crucial support and encouragement. “I chatted a bit with my husband. He just said: ‘Try to fight, you are playing good, you are playing a great match.’ That was it,” she revealed.

Despite their impending divorce, Simek remained present at Wimbledon to support Vondrousova in the final against Ons Jabeur. His emotional reaction to her victory highlighted the complexities of their relationship and his enduring support for her career.

While their marriage may have come to an end, the bond between Vondrousova and Simek, forged through shared experiences and mutual support, leaves a lasting impression. As Vondrousova continues her tennis journey, she carries with her the memories and lessons learned from their time together.
