Czech tennis sensation Marketa Vondrousova has revealed to a Czech news outlet the end of her marriage to husband Stepan Simek. The 24-year-old athlete and her 26-year-old spouse, who got engaged in 2021 and married a year later, have decided to part ways.
“Our marriage with Stepan ended a few weeks ago, we broke up. He moved out with the cat,” Vondrousova disclosed to Blesk, expressing the reality of their separation.
Vondrousova’s Wimbledon journey in 2023 gained attention not just for her on-court prowess but also for her husband’s involvement, particularly when she faced Jessica Pegula in a tense match. Despite being down by a double break in the third set, Vondrousova staged a remarkable comeback, winning the next five games to secure victory.
