The Match

Konta appeared nervous at the start. She double-faulted then landed a backhand into the net, giving a break to Pliskova in her opening service game (2-0). Pliskova held on to her serve in the rest of the first set and won it 6-3.

In the second set, both the players were 3-3 after the 6th game. Pliskova broke Konta’s serve in the 7th game, which was also the longest in the match. Konta saved 2 break points in the game, but the Czech broke to lead 4-3. The world no.7 held on to her serve in the rest of the set to win it 6-4 and the match 6-3 6-4 in 1 hour and 25 minutes.

With this title, Pliskova has become the world no.2, she will be the 2nd seed at the French Open which is starting next week. After the win, Pliskova hoped to take her good performance here to Paris.

“I just hope to take the tennis I was playing here to Paris, for sure there’s going to be a chance for me if I play this way.”
