Carlos Alcaraz, the defending champion, seems certain to play because he has said that he is improving slowly before the start of the Madrid Open.

The defending champion, Carlos Alcaraz, has stated that he is gradually getting better ahead of the Madrid Open, therefore it sounds like he is going to play.

Due to a right forearm issue, the world No. 3 player withdrew from the Monte Carlo Masters and missed his title defence at the Barcelona Open last week. He hasn’t played since losing in the Miami Open quarterfinals.

Alcaraz’s camp has stated that he is not hurt and is only uncomfortable during training sessions, but they have decided not to take any chances.

When Alcaraz appeared at the Laureus Sports Awards, a reporter inquired about his forearm. Alcaraz replied: “I’m very good, we are better and little by little getting the best sensations.”

Alcaraz has received a bye into the second round. Alcaraz’s first match is set for Friday, and he will either face Arthur Rinderknech or Alexander Shevchenko.
