Why Emma Raducanu may not be in the French Open main draw

Emma Raducanu is not assured a place in the French Open main draw even if she uses her protected ranking of 103.

Emma Raducanu is not guaranteed a spot in the French Open main draw despite using her protected ranking of 103.

Currently ranked fifth on the alternates list for Roland-Garros, the 21-year-old needs five players to withdraw before the start of the second Grand Slam of the year. If this doesn’t happen, she will either need to qualify through qualifying or be given a wild card.

After overcoming Caroline Garcia in three sets and then Diane Parry, Raducanu’s victory over France this past weekend assisted in pushing Great Britain into the Billie Jean King Cup Finals. The French Open qualifiers start on May 20, and the main competition starts on May 26.
