Medvedev loses his cool and insults the umpire in Monte Carlo’s defeat

During his loss to Karen Khachanov in the last 16 of the Monte-Carlo Masters on Thursday, Daniil Medvedev lost his composure once more.

Medvedev Loses His Temper

Daniil Medvedev lost his cool again during his last-16 defeat by Karen Khachanov at the Monte-Carlo Masters on Thursday.

After losing the first set 6-3, Medvedev was serving at 5-5 in the second and was 15-30 down when his opponent’s shot was called in, even though he was adamant it was out.

Khachanov was given two break points as a result, and Medvedev made a careless double fault to give up the game. The Russian player lost his serve and lost all control of his rage, swinging his racket in the direction of the backboard and rushing to his chair.

Despite Medvedev’s insistence that he had asked for medical attention, he was furious and his mood did not improve when a physio arrived to see him.

Looking up at the umpire, Carlos Bernardes, Medvedev questioned: ‘What is he doing here?’ while pointing at the physio.

He repeatedly asked aggressively: “‘Did I ask for the physio?”

Another official, Cedric Mourier, then approached him and tried to calm the situation, but Medvedev continued to express his frustration.

Medvedev continued: “The [ball] mark is freaking out! They don’t know how to referee anymore, the mark is out. Who will take action!? Yesterday, the ball is out, it’s called in. Who will take action? This ball is out there. Who will take responsibility? It’s not my responsibility to referee the match.”

Medvedev then hinted at the referee and said: “It’s this guy in the glasses. He doesn’t need glasses because he doesn’t see anything. He should not be a referee. It’s in front of him, it’s a slow ball, it’s 15-30 and five-all, he’s a bad referee, he should be out of the referee circle. It’s a freaking joke it’s out how did I lose the game when it’s out? It’s out, it’s out!”
