Kyrgios, Tomic NOT selected for Newcombe Medal

This is a rather curious (but understandable) case.

Both the Australian no.1 (Tomic) and the Australian no.2 (Kyrgios) have been left off the list of 6 nominees for the Newcombe Medal that is awarded to the “most outstanding elite tennis player and ambassador”.

The 6 nominees are Samantha Stosur, Kokkinakis, Sam Groth, Casey Dellacqua, John Peers and Dylan Alcott.

Why is that?

Most probably Nick and Bernard “elimination” from the nominees doesn’t come from their performance (Tomic is ranked no.18 while Kyrgios is no.30), but for the fact that Tennis Australia doesn’t consider them as “the most outstanding Ambassadors” for their country.

The “banging-gate” (Kyrgios vs. Wawrinka) and the controversial behaviour of Nick and Bernard during the year didn’t click much with the notion of being “Ambassador” for their country…and rightly so.
