The US Open champion, Coco Gauff, says her training routine will be the first step in her transition to clay court play.
Gauff says there’s a whole other level of physical preparation needed while training for clay. According to the 20-year-old, the focus of her training will be preventing injuries.
She expressed her thoughts in a recent interview and said: “Yeah, it’s pretty simple. I think we work more on the legs and the glutes because you do a lot of sliding and a lot of awkward movements. It’s a lot of injury prevention. Other than that, it’s just gradually changing surface. You’re not going to go out the first day and have an incredible movement practice. I feel like when you play on it more, it just hits you like that.”
She continued by saying that reaching her goals drives her and that her current priority is winning as many games as she can.
She added: “I think just my goals. I just want to win as much as possible. Yeah, I think the taste of winning is something indescribable, especially in big tournaments. So I just want to keep tasting it.”
