Following in the footsteps of Novak Djokovic’s recent coaching change, Lorenzo Sonego has announced his decision to part ways with his longtime coach, Gipo Arbino.

In a heartfelt message addressed to Arbino, Sonego expressed gratitude for their nearly two-decade-long partnership, acknowledging the need for a fresh perspective as he embarks on the latter half of his career.

“Dear Gypo, after almost 20 years of being together, I feel the need for a new stimulus for the second half of my career,” Sonego wrote. “Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the incredible work you did, for all the moments we shared together and all the results achieved.”

Sonego’s message reflected the deep bond he shared with Arbino, likening their relationship to that of a father figure. He emphasized that while their professional partnership may be coming to an end, the respect and admiration he holds for Arbino will endure indefinitely.

“You are not just a coach, you are like a father, one of the most important people in my life,” Sonego expressed. “Our relationship and my respect for you will last forever. I love you.”

Ranked world no.53, Sonego played his last match on the 21st of March when he capitulated to world no.43 Daniel Evans 1-6 6-3 6-4 in the 1st round in Miami (draw).

At the moment, during this season the Italian has managed to achieve a 4-9 win-loss record.

Sonego is scheduled to play next in Marrakech (Grand Prix Hassan II). He will start to play the tournament from the main draw that will commence on the 1st of April.
