Zverev Advances To Fourth Round In Miami Open, Reflects On Venue Change

In the absence of world No. 1 Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, seeded No. 4 in the Miami Open, continued his campaign with a strong performance, securing a convincing 7-6(4) 6-3 victory over Christopher Eubanks to advance into the fourth round of the tournament.

Reflecting on the match, Zverev acknowledged the challenge posed by his opponent, stating, “It was a difficult match. I thought he was in control of it throughout the first set.” Despite Eubanks’ strong start, Zverev managed to find his rhythm and adapt his game to secure the win. “He came out swinging and didn’t give me chances to be aggressive. I tried to mix it up from the baseline,” Zverev added, emphasizing his strategy to counter Eubanks’ solid baseline play.

In a more detailed interview with the Tennis Channel, Zverev shared his thoughts on the unconventional venue for this year’s Miami Open. The tournament is being held at the Hard Rock Stadium, with the tennis court positioned inside the vast stadium, while the outside courts are temporary structures.

Expressing his preference for the previous venue, Key Biscayne, where the Miami Open was hosted up to 2018, Zverev stated, “I loved playing at Key Biscayne, I loved being there.” He highlighted his past successes at the venue and the familiarity it provided. However, Zverev acknowledged the need to adapt to the new environment, noting the significant differences in playing conditions between the Centre Court and the outside courts at the Hard Rock Stadium.

Zverev described the unique challenges posed by the venue, stating, “Here, I am still trying to find my rhythm because there is an extreme difference from the way Centre Court plays compared to the other courts simply because we play inside a massive stadium and it is kind of covered.” He also noted differences in the playing surface, describing the outside courts as resembling a “parking lot.”

Despite the adjustments required, Zverev expressed confidence in his game and his desire to perform well at the tournament, saying, “So, I hope I can make a deep run here. I feel like I’m playing well and I hope I can have a good tournament.”

As Zverev progresses through the Miami Open, his ability to adapt to the unique challenges of the venue will undoubtedly play a crucial role in his quest for success in the tournament.
