Affected by windy conditions, quick courts, and an opponent hitting hard and fast, Nishikori admitted to having difficulty making balls in play and placing shots. He acknowledged his opponent, Adam Ross, played well and denied him any break points.
Reflecting on the importance of match play, Nishikori maintained his motivation to keep playing and aimed to stay healthy throughout the year, with the goal of participating in the clay court season and potentially the Houston tournament. Nishikori also reflected on the challenges of returning to competition after a long injury absence, highlighting the physical demands of the game and a full-circle moment with James Blake. Looking ahead, he planned to focus on clay courts in Houston, Barcelona, and Madrid.

Currently ranked no.351, Nishikori played his last match on the 21st of March when he capitulated to world no.40 Sebastian Ofner 6-3 6-4 in the 1st round in Miami (draw).
