Ahead of his campaign in Miami, rising tennis star Jannik Sinner opened up about his recent wrist injury, reflecting on his performance in the semi-final match of the Indian Wells Open against fellow young talent Carlos Alcaraz.
“It’s for sure not the ending that I wanted, but, you know, playing against him, it’s always tough,” Sinner remarked on the challenging match.
Sinner encountered a setback in the deciding set when he took a nasty tumble, potentially injuring his elbow. Despite the setback, he remained resilient, continuing to compete until the match’s conclusion.
“I don’t know. We will see tomorrow,” Sinner responded when asked about his injury by Alcaraz after the match.
Reflecting on his physical condition, Sinner expressed hope for a swift recovery, emphasizing the importance of being fit for the upcoming Miami tournament.
“Hopefully, we will see in the next days if physically I will be good for Miami, which is for me personally the most important,” Sinner stated.
Acknowledging the toll that competitive sports can take on the body, Sinner remained optimistic, despite feeling the effects of his injuries.
“At the moment, I feel a little bit of everything on my body (smiling). But it’s normal. It’s sport. You know, you have to accept this,” he remarked.
Despite the challenges posed by his injury, Sinner remained focused on the positives, highlighting the learning opportunities inherent in facing tough opponents like Alcaraz.
“He makes things very difficult to play obviously. He puts a lot of pressure on you. You know, he changed a couple of things today, like, tactically, which I have to watch out for the next time,” Sinner explained.
Looking ahead, Sinner expressed determination to improve and overcome challenges, emphasizing the positive aspects of the sport.
“I have to improve a couple of things and trying to beat him again. I think that’s also the good and positive side of this sport,” he concluded.
As Sinner prepares for his campaign in Miami, his resilience and determination in the face of adversity serve as a testament to his unwavering commitment to excellence in tennis.
