Why Alcaraz was so happy to beat Sinner in Indian Wells

Carlos Alcaraz advanced to the Indian Wells ATP Masters final on Saturday after defeating Jannik Sinner 1-6, 6-3, 6-2. Sinner suffered his first defeat of 2024.

Carlos Alcaraz defeated Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 to earn a spot in the Indian Wells ATP Masters final on Saturday. It was Sinner’s first loss of 2024.

Sinner’s 19-match winning streak, which included a 16-0 start to the year, came to an end with the win, and Alcaraz will continue to be ranked second in the world the following week.

Alcaraz said he was happy to beat Sinner and expressed his thoughts about it: “Matches with Jannik are always special. I always demand the highest level from myself against him and it’s the same for him. We know we have to play at our highest level to win. We have put magic on the court, unbelievable points, and for the crowd, it is also wonderful.”

He further added: “I’m happy to reach another final. It means a lot to me to play at such a great level and be able to play another final. Of course, beating Jannik, we have a really good rivalry and a 16-match streak; to be able to end something like this, it’s incredible for me.”
