Coco Gauff was recently shocked to learn how much tax she actually pays and has been thinking about it ever since.

The 2023 US Open champion is one of the highest-paid athletes in the world, with an estimated net worth of $12 million. Like the rest of us, Gauff finds her current tax burden unpleasant, even though many may find her position to be envious.

Gauff pays what she owes the Internal Revenue Service, knowing that it exists. She was only informed of the amount, and she is not at all happy about it.

Gauff discussed it during a conversation and said: “I’ve always been aware that I had to pay taxes even when I was a minor but I guess now I’m more aware of how much money is going to the government, and it’s a lot, so I would say that part, being aware of it, is something I’m not enjoying.”

She added: “I’ve been paying taxes since I’ve been making money. But just now, when I turned 19, my dad has made me more aware of how much I’m paying and how everything works in that world. I wish I could go back to not knowing how much is going away.”
