At the Delray Beach Open, Taylor Fritz encountered several challenges, including wind and rain. However, nothing could prevent him from winning his trophy defense.

Fritz overcame Paul 6-2, 6-3 on Monday to join Jason Stoltenberg as the only player in tournament history to win the title twice in succession. Fritz continued despite the windy conditions and one day’s delay for the final due to rain.

Fritz expressed his thoughts after the win and said: “I had a long list of things I needed to do well, but I think a lot of that went out the window when we realized the conditions for the match [that it was] going to be so windy. On both sides, I had different ideas of what I wanted to do because I was just limited by the wind. I tried to serve as best I could, which got me out of some trouble. I started to find it at the end. But it’s incredibly tough to play, do what you want to do when it’s windy like this.”

Since the beginning of the 2022 season, Fritz has now advanced to six straight ATP Tour finals. He has never before lost a set while successfully defending a title, which makes this his first time doing so.
