Grigor Dimitrov showed compassion by going into the stands to give a special token of love to a disabled fan after winning the Open 13 in Marseille in the second round.
At the ATP 250 event, Dimitrov has a first-round bye and is seeded No. 2. At the Palais des Sports de Marseille, he faced off against Sebastian Korda on Thursday in front of a passionate audience.
In the opening set, Dimitrov easily defeated the American, breaking Korda twice on his serve. The Bulgarian won the tiebreaker in the second set, which was far more competitive, 7-5.
Following the win, Dimitrov made a heartfelt gesture to the audience. To meet a disabled fan in the stands, the 32-year-old climbed the court’s ledge. Along with giving the fan his wristband, Dimitrov also had photos taken with him.
In particular, Dimitrov was satisfied with his performance and stroke selection in the opening set against Korda. He said: “I think the first set was amazing. Honestly, whatever I was touching was getting to the right place, and in matches like that, sometimes it is very difficult to maintain it throughout the two sets.”
