Ben Shelton made an incredible entry at the Dallas Open on Wednesday, defeating fellow American Michael Mmoh 6-3, 6-3 in his tournament debut with a perfect serving display and an aggressive style of play. With the win, Shelton made it to his sixth quarterfinal on the tour and his second at home following his incredible run to the US Open semifinals in 2023.

Shelton dropped only three points on serve in his first match since losing to Adrian Mannarino in the third round of the Australian Open. Also, he demonstrated his versatility by making 12 of his 14 net approaches successful.

Shelton said after his first match: “I was pretty surprised with the level I played at today. I felt comfortable out on the court playing and moving. I thought I played a really good match.”

He added: “I think the biggest thing for me is my movement. I think a year and a half ago, I had two left feet. I couldn’t move on the court. Probably there are a lot of people in the stands right now who are moving on the tennis court better than me. But I feel like that’s the part of my game that improved the most and I’m moving at a pretty high level right now.”
