Sebastian Korda will take on Oleksii Krutykh of Ukraine in the U.S. team’s Davis Cup qualifier on February 1st at the SEB Arena in Vilnius, Lithuania. Due to Russia’s unprovoked and ongoing invasion of Ukraine, this home tie for Ukraine will be played in Lithuania for security concerns.
After losing to Andrey Rublev in the third round of the Australian Open, Korda expressed his excitement about taking the court as the first player on the indoor hard court.
Korda expressed his thoughts about it and said: “Yeah, it’s not going to be an easy time, for sure. I think we’re all pretty excited to get going. Hopefully, I’ll play my best tennis. Yeah, it’s my second Davis Cup tie, so I’m excited to play. We have a great team, great guys on the team, and we have a lot of great chemistry, so I’m excited to be here and getting ready to go tomorrow.”
With a 5-2 lifetime Davis Cup record heading into the tie, Taylor Fritz is excited to get the United States off to a good start.
Fritz said: “I’m playing second on the first day; I guess it’s good to not be the first one going out. I get to see Sebi play the first match, then I get to finish out day one. I expect [Ukrainian players] to play well. I feel like typically, when you have nothing to lose, you can play at a high level. So obviously, I’m going to respect that and prepare to play my best.”
