After Jannik Sinner defeated Daniil Medvedev in Sunday’s Australian Open final to win his maiden Grand Slam, Nick Kyrgios asked the new champion to be his coach. In his final match, Sinner impressed Kyrgios, who was making commentary during his injury recovery.

After the final, Kyrgios said on commentary: “Jannik, well done, Grand Slam champion. My message to you is, How much can I pay you to be my coach so I can win a Grand Slam?”

Then Sinner laughed and acknowledged that it was a difficult question, made more so by Kyrgios’s addition that the role would be unpaid.

Sinner replied: “OK for you; maybe I do it for free. What is for sure is that everybody is missing you. You are this kind of player you don’t see around too often so your game style, the way you behave on court, you’re different, and these are the kinds of players we need.”

Sinner further said: “I hope you are getting back and I am missing you. I think we talked a little bit before my second-round match; I saw you there and it was a great emotion to see you. I hope to see you back as soon as possible. You are a potential Grand Slam champion and I think you know it Keep it up.”
