Djokovic Shakes Hands With Prizmic

In the Australian Open, young qualifier Dino Prizmic gave Novak Djokovic an intense fight in the first round. Looking for a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam, Djokovic lost the third set 6-2 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 6-4 in Melbourne before winning.

The Serbian survived an important challenge in his bid to surpass Margaret Court and take the top spot in the sport, and it was the longest Grand Slam opening match he has ever played.

Djokovic expressed his thoughts in the post-match interview and said: “I started well for a 36-year-old. Wow, when you think about it, I am double his age. I struggled in many different moments tonight. He was very physical. I had good moments. In some moments, I could have played better. It’s been a very short off-season but hopefully, I will be at my best for the next match.”

After defeating him at the Australian Open, Djokovic praised Prizmic. He expressed his remarks about the young player and said: “He deserves every applause. Every credit he got tonight. He’s an amazing player. So mature for his age. He handled himself incredibly well. This is his moment, honestly. He showed a great mentality. Resilience. He made me run for my money tonight. I have many praises and compliments for him. I love the way he’s using every inch of the court. Amazing performance for someone who’s 18 and has never had experience playing on a big stage. Big kudos to him, his team, and his family. I certainly want to be in his corner.”
