McEnroe: I cannot condone Kyrgios

John McEnroe wasn’t the easiest character on tour during his time, but he has never done a specific thing: tanking!

John shared his thoughts about Kyrgios’ behaviour and interesting enough the American was more upset ”for Nick’s tanking against Gasquet in Wimbledon (he gave up an entire game) than other things (e. sledging Wawrinka and his girlfriend)

McEnroe: I cannot condone tanking …

During a recent interview John commented “One thing I can’t condone or never condone is watching one player, any player, throwing the towel for a period of time. He tanked a game against Gasquet. He sort of denied it, but it was obvious that he did. He’s having such issues right now. The pressure’s getting to him. As a 20-year-old kid, I did my share of dumb things, inappropriate things at times. The good part is I had people that I looked at.

Connors did some crazy things, too, but he was a hell of a competitor and he made me go out there and give more effort. I think he’d be well-served to look at the guys like  Nadal, the guys that go out there, tremendous effort players.”

… he cannot afford to waste too much energy

Than John added “He can’t afford to waste as much energy as he’s wasting with these sort of off-court comments … He’s tremendously talented. He’s charismatic. He’s got a look that’s different. He brings something to the table.”

NOT AN EASY CHARACTER AS WELL
