Stefanos Tsitsipas Rules Out Mixed Doubles Partnership With Girlfriend Paula Badosa At 2024 Australian Open

In a recent development, Greek tennis sensation Stefanos Tsitsipas has confirmed that he will not be teaming up with his girlfriend, Paula Badosa, for the mixed-doubles draw at the upcoming 2024 Australian Open.

Tsitsipas and Badosa, who have yet to play together in the mixed doubles circuit, had initially planned to make their debut at the Wimbledon Championships in July 2023. Unfortunately, their partnership was delayed as the Spaniard withdrew from the tournament due to an injury.

Reflecting on their relationship, Tsitsipas spoke to The Guardian about their on-court chemistry during their World Tennis League campaign in December 2023. He expressed his belief that Badosa is the right partner for him, emphasizing their shared focus and sense of humor.

“I truly believe she [Badosa] is the right person at my side and vice versa for her. We laugh a lot and got to the finals of a mixed doubles event in Abu Dhabi last month. She has the same seriousness as me on court,” Tsitsipas said.

Despite their successful stint in Abu Dhabi, Tsitsipas revealed that he won’t be pairing up with Badosa for the Australian Open’s mixed-doubles title. He cited the challenging decision, expressing his desire to play with her but prioritizing his singles career and conserving energy for deep runs in the tournament.

“It’s a difficult decision because I really want to play with her. But my main priority is singles, and it’s important to economize my energy during these hopefully deep runs. I am already committed to playing doubles with my brother [Petros]. So three events would be too demanding,” Tsitsipas explained.

In the 2023 Australian Open, Tsitsipas reached the final but faced defeat at the hands of Novak Djokovic in a closely contested match. Despite falling short, Tsitsipas remains focused on his singles aspirations, leaving the mixed-doubles partnership with Badosa for a future opportunity.

As the Australian Open approaches, fans can expect Tsitsipas to give his best in the singles competition, aiming to surpass his previous performance and make a lasting impact in Melbourne.
