Bencic upsets Serena Williams!

Belinda beats Serena in a passionate 3 setter. VIDEO

The 18-year-old has defeated huge players on her way such as Bouchard, Wozniacki, Lisicki, Ivanovic and now the great Serena.

The match was a real roller coaster with Serena getting a huge 5-1 lead in the opener to finally win the first set 6-3. In the second Belinda failed to serve out the set when she was 5-3 up, but eventually she managed to grab it at the very end (7-5). The decider was a thriller with Belinda getting a strong 5-1 lead, but Serena refused to bow (wonder why she is that great?) to win 3 consecutive games (5-4). When the world no.1 seemed to be poised to win another incredible battle, Belinda regrouped to break Serena for the 7th time (!!!) and win the match 3-6 7-5 6-4.

Bencic: I have no words

Belinda was visibly emotional after this great match to comment “I can’t describe the feeling right now. I was very overwhelmed from the situation on the court, but I’m just so happy the forehand landed in and she couldn’t reach it anymore. It was an incredible feeling. I have no words.”

Serena: She did really well at everything tonight

The American is one of the most gracious “losers” on tour to give full credit to her opponent “I thought she did really well at everything tonight,” Williams said. “She really reads the ball well, and she really fought well. I knew that about her already, that she never gives up and she fights hard.

I felt pretty much in control until I lost the match. I always felt I still had an opportunity to stay in there. And obviously I was down and stuff. But I just wasn’t playing well today. It wasn’t my day. Hopefully I can rectify that going into Cincinnati next week and then going into the US Open. Hopefully I can have a few more better days.”

Next vs. Simona Halep

Belinda will play Simona Halep in the final. Head to head is 1-0 for the Romanian that demolished Belinda 6-4 6-1 in the 3rd round of Wimbledon 2014. This time it shouldn’t be so easy.
