Naomi Osaka is ready to make her WTA tour comeback with her debut match against Tamara Korpatsch at the 2024 Brisbane International on Sunday.

Osaka will face Korpatsch on Sunday at the 2024 Brisbane International to kick off her WTA tour comeback. The Japanese player, who missed all of 2023 due to maternity leave, talked honestly about how becoming a mother has affected her at her pre-contest news conference.

Osaka acknowledged that the reason for her latest social media post expressing gratitude to those who have supported her throughout her life is the increasing experience that parenthood has given her. In July, she and her partner, Cordae, welcomed their first child into the world.

According to Osaka, there are moments when she feels obligated to change Shai’s diaper because her mother changed hers when she was a little girl. This makes her realize that she needs to treat her mother much more kindly, and it also makes her realize that everyone goes through similar developmental stages.

Osaka went on to explain that she texted her mother to express her gratitude for everything she had done for her child right away after changing her diaper.

Osaka expressed her thoughts about it and said: “Yeah, I think definitely. Sometimes when I’m changing Shai’s diaper, I think, Wow, my mom did this to me. Then I feel bad. I’m like, Wow, I should treat my mom a lot nicer. Yeah, it’s a very new feeling, and it opened my eyes to a lot of new things.”

She added: “It kind of just made me realize, like, everyone was a baby and everyone kind of absorbed energy, and we all learned different things; we all kind of appreciate people in the same way. Yeah, the first thing I did after I changed Shai’s diaper was text my mom, ‘Hey, mom, thanks for everything that you did.”
