Daniil Medvedev says he intends to start the 2024 season by playing the Australian Open straight away without participating in any qualifying events, and then monitor his performance. The 27-year-old Medvedev participated in 21 events in 2023, having another busy season.
Medvedev made deep runs in most of those twenty-one tournaments. Over the course of 84 games, Medvedev recorded 66 victories and 18 defeats. Medvedev disclosed that he and his wife are taking a vacation after his defeat to Jannik Sinner in the ATP Finals semifinal.
In addition to stating that, Medvedev said that he expects the Australian Open to take place in mid-January 2024.
Medvedev expressed his thoughts and said: “Every year was different. To be honest, I haven’t been on as much off-season vacation as some players. You never know. One time I had the Davis Cup. Last year we had a small baby, so I was straightaway back to my duties. This year we’re going to go with my wife to the islands.”
He further added: “First time in maybe four, five years. She doesn’t like it too much there because there is not much to do. But for me, that’s perfect after a hectic season. I love it. I’m probably going to play only Australian Open. Going to try like this to have more of a vacation time than usual and more of an indiscernible off-season time and start with a slam straightaway, which is going to be new for me. But let’s see.”
