Thiem bids for 2nd career title

Dominic Thiem is more and more the real deal.

The young Austrian has just turned 21 to bid for his 2nd career title in Umag after winning the first one this year in Nice.

Dominic had a strange path to the final after taking advantage of the retirements of Lajovic and Haider-Maurer in the first 2 matches before winning a weird semifinal against Monfils 1-6 6-3 6-1.

Thiem: Gael played unbelievable in the 1st set

Dominic commented “Gael played unbelievable in the first set. When he plays like that, there isn’t much you can do. I was lucky to get the break early in the second set and then the match started to shift in my favour. The conditions are really tough. You sweat a lot. I was also tired in the third set but I am happy as I didn’t show it.”

The final vs. Sousa

Dominic will play Joao Sousa in the final. Head to head is 2-0 for the Austrian.
