Holger Rune and his weird rant vs. ATP physiotherapists

Holger Rune's struggles continue, citing inadequate ATP physiotherapy, as he drops in rankings; seeks to regain form with Boris Becker.

Holger Rune Voices Frustration Over Atp Medical Staff As Performance Wanes

Holger Rune, the young Danish tennis sensation, has experienced a season far from his peak, culminating in his drop from the top 5 rankings. His struggles in hard court events have been evident, with several early-round exits. His recent disappointment at the Swiss Indoors Basel added to his woes, as he was defeated in straight sets in the semifinals.

The 20-year-old tennis star not only suffered another disheartening loss but also garnered attention for his vocal criticism of the ATP authorities, particularly the medical staff on the men’s tour. Rune’s frustration came to the fore during his semifinal match at the Swiss Indoors Basel, where he faced off against Canadian colleague Felix Auger Aliassime, who ultimately defeated him 6-3, 6-2.

From the outset of the match, Rune struggled to find his rhythm, and he took the opportunity to express his discontent to the chair umpire. According to a report from Puntodebreak, during one of the exchanges, Rune openly discussed his on-court difficulties, attributing them to the physiotherapists.

Rune exclaimed, “My legs are so tense because the physiotherapists at the ATP are not good enough to treat the players. That’s the reason. Why do you think I’m playing poorly? People need to know that they’re not up to par. There is a physio who allocates only 10 minutes per player. Yes, I could bring my own physio, which is exactly what I’ll do. We play at the highest level, and we deserve high-level physiotherapists.

Despite his partnership with ATP legend Boris Becker, Rune has struggled to regain his former glory. The former world No. 4 remains on a quest to rediscover his best form and regain his position among the tennis elite.

Rune’s candid critique of the ATP medical staff sheds light on the importance of comprehensive player support and the need for top-quality physiotherapists in the world of professional tennis. As he continues to navigate the challenges of the tour, Rune’s determination to address his physical well-being underscores the competitive nature of the sport and the demands placed on its athletes.
