Holger Rune’s new coach will be Boris Becker, who has declared that he thinks the two will work well together. Following his back injury shortly after Wimbledon, Rune has struggled in the second half of his 2023 campaign. Rune has lost nine of his past ten matches, dating back to the quarterfinals of SW19, when he was defeated by Carlos Alcaraz. Rune lost to world No. 58 Miomir Kecmanovic in the last 16 of the Nordic Open on Wednesday.
After nearly a year together, the Danish player broke up with Patrick Mouratoglou in order to get back together with his former coach Lars Christensen. Now, Rune will collaborate with former world No. 1 Becker, who finished his career with six Grand Slam victories. The two will formally start working together at Swiss Indoors Basel on October 25.
Becker revealed it in a recent interview and said: “I can confirm that I am Holger Rune’s coach. It makes me a little proud that he asked me. The contact has existed for a long time. Now it was a very good fit. My calendar allows it and I have always been interested in Holger because he is on the tennis court with so much commitment and temperament.”
He further added: “Holger is a rough diamond that needs polishing. I like his emotional outbursts. I have coached a player before, Novak Djokovic, who was sometimes not quite himself on the court, but that is allowed.”

WWLLLWWWWL Ranked world no.6, the Dane played his last match on the 18th of October when he surrendered to world no.53 Miomir Kecmanovic 7-6(3) 6-2 in the 2nd round in Stockholm (draw).
Until now, during this year the Dane owns a compiled 38-20 win-loss record. The Dane has won 1 title in Munich. The Dane was the finalist in Monte-Carlo and Rome.
He is also scheduled to play in Paris (Rolex Paris Masters) after Basel. The main draw will start on the 23rd of October.
