Pam Shriver, a former WTA player, applauded Coco Gauff for her decision to reorganize her coaching staff, which was essential for her spectacular comeback.

Coco Gauff was instructed by her father for the majority of her career. Gauff began working with other individuals as she got better and better, including Patrick Mouratoglou, who also temporarily worked as her coach during the clay season this year.

The American didn’t enjoy herself during that period and decided to change her coaching staff, removing her father as the major coach and bringing in Pere Riba. They bonded over their shared desire for her to play more aggressively, and when veteran voice Brad Gilbert was added, everything just reached a whole new level.

Recently, Shriver mentioned it in a podcast, cheering Gauff for choosing to try something new. She said: “Well if you’d asked me that right after Wimbledon I would have had a totally different answer. The response that Coco and the team have had since Wimbledon by adding, I know Pere Riba was hired a little bit before Brad Gilbert.”

She further added: “To be able to merge those voices together and to have the presence of the dad to be able to step back from at least being in the box. I thought it was a very mature decision by Coco and her team to bring who they brought in.”
