Carlos Alcaraz Puts Daniil Medvedev Ahead Of Djokovic On Hard Courts

Rising tennis star Carlos Alcaraz has named Daniil Medvedev as the player to beat on hard courts, placing him ahead of Novak Djokovic. Alcaraz and Medvedev are the top seeds at the Shanghai Masters, where Djokovic is currently taking a break.

Despite Djokovic’s recent victory at the US Open, Alcaraz believes that the 27-year-old Russian, Medvedev, is currently the standout performer on hard courts. Alcaraz, who last secured a title at Wimbledon, recognizes the dominance of Djokovic and Jannik Sinner on hard courts since his Wimbledon win.

Medvedev, who reached the US Open final and the final in Beijing, is considered a formidable opponent by Alcaraz. In the US Open, he defeated Alcaraz in the semifinals, despite the Spaniard being the top seed and defending champion. Alcaraz now views Medvedev as the primary threat on hard courts for the rest of the year.

While Djokovic is on a brief hiatus, he is set to return to the tour at the Paris Masters later this month. His tournament schedule for the remainder of the year includes Paris-Bercy, the ATP Finals, and the Davis Cup Finals. Meanwhile, Medvedev, the player Alcaraz sees as the one to beat, will be competing in Shanghai, Vienna, Paris, and the ATP Finals.

Alcaraz is already guaranteed a spot at the season-ending championships in Turin this year, after missing out in 2022 due to an abdominal injury sustained in Paris.
