Sloane Stephens is not coachless anymore. The world no.8 announced the hiring of Sven Groeneveld as her new coach.
Who is Sven Groeneveld?
Sven has a vast experience in women’s coaching. He partnered for 4 years with Maria Sharapova 2014-2018 when they won the Roland Garros and 6 other titles.
Groeneveld also worked with Monica Seles, Arantxa Sánchez Vicario, Mary Pierce, Caroline Wozniacki, and Ana Ivanovic. Sven was particularly successful with the Serbian when they won the Roland Garros in 2008 before Ana also reached the world no.1 spot.
Stephens’ struggle
Sloane is well-known to be extremely dangerous when she is well tuned-in a tournament. However, the world no.6 often struggles to have continuity in her results. She has only an 8-7 win-loss record in 2019, and she is ranked only 36 in the year to date rankings.
