Simona Halep is about to start her run in Madrid where she won the title already in 2016 and 2017, and she was the runner-up in 2014 (see titles). Last year the Romanian reached the quarters before losing to Karolina Pliskova 6-4 6-3.
Halep chasing world no.1 in Madrid
Simona has the chance to take back the world no.1 rank in Madrid is she wins the title and Naomi Osaka will not reach the semifinal.
Simona was sidelined by a hip injury after she played a Davis Cup tie last month to skip Stuttgart.
The Romanian is already in Madrid getting ready for another great week.
