Good news for the tennis world as Justin Gimelstob will finally step down from the ATP Board of Directors with the immediate effect and he will presence his candidacy for the re-elections that will take place the 14th of May.
Gimelstob hit the headlines last November after he assaulted Randall Kaplan in LA dressed as a Top Gun pilot (see this incredible story).
Recently, Justin was found guilty, and he got three years of probation and 60 days of community service.
It was curious to notice that nothing was done at board level, and eventually Gimelstob had to step down after the entire tennis world, and some top players such as Murray and Wawrinka
were vocal on why he wasn’t ousted from the ATP Board.Eventually, Christopher Clarey, New York Times tennis correspondent, announced on Twitter that Gimelstob in a telephone interview from Spain revealed that he would step down from the ATP Board of Directors with immediate effect to comment
“I’m stepping down because my job is to work on the sport’s behalf and the players’ behalf and in my situation, I’ve become too much of a distraction and a liability. I take responsibility for that, and I take responsibility for the mistakes I made Halloween night.”
That was long due.
